QUESTION: I don’t have a college degree, but I have 10+ years of experience. How do I compete with candidates who do?
Amy Adler, Five Strengths Career Transition Experts
Do you have any college credits? You can share your education by describing your degrees as “Coursework [or XX credits] completed toward Bachelor of Science (BS), Biology, University Name.” This formulation ensures that the right keywords are in your resume while telling the full truth of your academic experience.
Scott Gardner, Vitae Express
Honestly, no degree? No problem in my book. Times have changed, and while some employers still really want degrees, ten years of real results is nothing to sneeze at and matters more in my opinion. Just be sure to show what you’ve built, fixed, or improved. A lot of employers now care about what you can do, not where you studied.
