Are creative resume templates appropriate for non-creative roles?

QUESTION: Are creative resume templates appropriate for non-creative roles?

Kate Williamson, Scientech Resumes

I’d avoid creative resume templates. Many use graphics and complex layouts that can cause issues with ATS compatibility. You also need to consider the human reader. Recruiters in fields like finance, engineering, and biotech expect a logical, easy-to-read format. A simple, conventional design keeps the focus where it belongs—your experience and achievements—without distracting the reader.

Scott Gardner, Vitae Express

For most roles, clarity almost always beats creativity. No need to do anything to distract hiring teams from your experience. A clean, well-structured resume that clearly shows results will outperform a flashy design almost every time.
