Does changing my LinkedIn headline alert my current employer that I’m job hunting?

QUESTION: Does changing my LinkedIn headline alert my current employer that I’m job hunting?

Deirdre Rock, Composed Career, LLC

Changing your LinkedIn headline does not send any notification to your network. When positioned thoughtfully, it can be framed internally as an effort to represent better your role, expertise, and the value you bring to the organization. The key is having a prepared script that clearly and credibly frames the update as advancing organizational visibility and positioning, should it be questioned.

Emily Christakis, NorthStar Careers

No it does not. Updating your headline to showcase your unique value proposition to the LinkedIn universe of 1B+ users is a powerful branding tool. You can discreetly alert recruiters that you are job hunting by switching on the “Recruiters only” setting within the job preferences setting. This setting limits recruiters who are currently at your company from viewing your job search status
