QUESTION: How much detail should I go into for each job position on my résumé?
Laura Fontenot, Masterwork Resumes
Like most things on the resume, it depends! How relevant is the job to your current goal? How many years ago did you work there? Are there any transferable skills you can showcase? If the role was recent and relevant, consider using 3-5 concise bullets to describe the best success stories. If the job won’t help too much with your current goals, keep the content very brief.
Nancy Grant, Regional Career & Employment Services
Job descriptions are like recipes; the most crucial ingredients are listed first and the rest are optional. Do the same for your resume. Only provide details that apply to the position. Recruiters are looking for the specific information to determine if you are viable candidate to move forward. Once selected, you can fill in the rest during an interview.
