QUESTION: I’ve worked for controversial organizations (e.g., political groups, ethically debated industries). How do I present that experience neutrally?

Kate Williamson, Scientech Resumes

Lead with your role and impact, not the organization. Use a neutral descriptor to give context (e.g., mid-sized nonprofit) if the name could distract. Avoid charged language (e.g., fought for) and stick to factual verbs like “implemented programs.” Quantify/qualify your results and highlight transferable skills. In interviews, focus on your value. Don’t defend/debate the organization’s positions.
