QUESTION: How do you incorporate storytelling or narrative techniques into a resume to make it more engaging and memorable?
Jaime Chambron , Career Agility System
Share how you got to where you are today by telling in your own authentic voice the results you drove. Start with a summary and key accomplishments you are most proud of, then go into the details. Use colorful language and hooks that will want to keep the reader wanting to learn more about you.
Emily Christakis
Great stories, like a great resume, are memorable. Position yourself as the hero who can swoop in to solve a hiring manager’s problems (e.g., save money, reduce staff turnover, slash waste). Use the headline as the hook to engage the reader. Incorporate descriptive, bulleted phrases that lead with results, followed by the action you took. Write in first-person voice but remove references to “I”.

My strategy is to turn facts into impact by framing achievements as mini success stories. What challenge was faced, what action was taken, and what was the result. This narrative style brings your résumé to life, showing not just what you did, but how you made a difference. It’s how you turn bullets into a brand.
